University of Kurdistan Guidelines for Using Artificial Intelligence Tools in Research

University of Kurdistan Guidelines for Using Artificial Intelligence Tools in Research

Principles

Adherence to scientific ethics. The use of artificial intelligence should not lead to scientific fraud or plagiarism.

All cases of use of artificial intelligence should be accurately reported in proposals and articles.

The user of artificial intelligence is ultimately responsible for its content and results.

Artificial intelligence is only an auxiliary tool and should not replace the creativity of critical thinking and the responsibility of the researcher.

The use of artificial intelligence should not lead to the disclosure of confidential personal information with sensitive data.

Operational recommendations for researchers

In using artificial intelligence tools for each section, the name of the tool, version, date and method of use should be clearly stated; artificial intelligence outputs should be reviewed, validated and verified before use; tools that are reliable in terms of security and privacy should be used.

Requirements

If planning to use artificial intelligence, both the necessity of use and the type of use should be announced in the main plan in the methodology section and how to manage possible risks should be described.

In research reports, it should be clear how AI is used to generate text, images, graphs, or in data analysis. AI outputs should be reviewed and validated.

Prohibited items

Using AI to generate the main data of the findings, conducting discussions and conclusions without the actual participation of the researcher,

Using AI instead of quoting or citing the source,

Using AI to perform statistical tests without sufficient knowledge of the calculation method and its limitations

Manipulating the main data or generating fictitious data,

Using AI images without citing the source or as the final result of a real experiment or observation, or in any way that misleads the reader,

Entering personal, confidential or sensitive data into online AI tools

Using AI tools without ensuring compliance with privacy regulations

Using AI tools that are not under legal supervision or violate domestic regulations

The researcher is responsible for the use of AI

Even if the content is produced with the help of AI, the researcher is responsible for its scientific accuracy, accuracy, compliance with research ethics and compatibility with the project objectives. The researcher is also responsible for making final decisions and interpreting the results; Therefore, in the event of any ethical violation, scientific error, or legal problem arising from the use of artificial intelligence, the researcher will be the main responsible party.

Responsibility of referees and supervisors

Ensure that there is a statement on the use of artificial intelligence in the text of the proposal and report.

Ensure that the use of artificial intelligence has not led to a violation of scientific ethics.

If they doubt the accuracy of the content produced by artificial intelligence, request a source with additional review.

Do not be biased towards the use of artificial intelligence, provided that it is used correctly and responsibly.

Prohibitions on the use of AI in the field of review/supervision

Uploading the full text of the proposal with the project report in AI systems

Using AI instead of scientific and expert review

Full trust in the opinions and analyses provided by AI on the quality of research

Using AI for ethical assessment with research innovation without human review

How to cite

If AI is used as an auxiliary tool, it must be referenced in the text: Example: This section/image or diagram was produced with the help of the tool (name of the tool) on the date of use (mention the date). Example: The introduction section was produced with the help of the ChatGPT tool, version 4, on May 10, 1405, and then revised and completed by the researcher. If necessary, a section entitled Artificial Intelligence Tools Used can be added at the end of the report with the proposal

It should be noted that the use of artificial intelligence is in accordance with ethical principles and this code of conduct, and that matters related to privacy and sensitive data have been observed.

In preparing these guidelines, the guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence tools in relevant research of the National Science Foundation of Iran have been used.
