Abstract

Today, the issue of ensuring food security for communities is very important as one of the fundamental pillars in every country. Since input prices increase with increasing uncertainty and economic fluctuations, and consequently people's purchasing power decreases, the demand for food products also decreases, and ultimately food insecurity intensifies; Therefore, the main purpose of the present study is to investigate the impact of macroeconomic uncertainty on food security in Iran during the period 1980 to 2010. Food supply has been used as a proxy for the food security index. The macroeconomic uncertainty index is also an estimated index of 7 groups of the most important macroeconomic variables. The results of this study show that macroeconomic uncertainty has a negative and significant effect and macroeconomic uncertainty shocks have led to a decrease in food security in the long run. In addition, the results of the analysis of variance in the tenth period show that macroeconomic uncertainty explains 33.66 percent of the changes in food security. On the other hand, per capita income, foreign direct investment, trade freedom has a positive and significant effect, and population growth and inflation have a negative and significant effect on food security.
