Abstract

This study examines the effects of non-renewable energy consumption and information and communication technology on the quality of life in Iran to analyze the mediating role of information and communication technology on the relationship between non-renewable energy consumption and the human development index. This study uses data from 1990 to 2022 and the Dynamic Least Squares (DOLS) approach to achieve the objectives of the study. In order to conduct the research, two models were examined. The results of the long-term relationship of research variables showed that non-renewable energy, inflation rate, income inequality and urbanization have a negative effect on the quality of life in Iran. In addition, government spending and the information and communication technology index have a positive effect on the quality of life. According to the purpose of research based on the results of the second model, non-renewable energy when combined with information and communication technology has a positive effect on the quality of life. Therefore, information and communication technology index can reduce the negative effect of non-renewable energy consumption on the quality of life in Iran as a mediator.
